Google's new bid to avoid EU fine

Post by Kyuki on Wed Apr 17, 2013 4:19 pm

Google is preparing to change the way it presents search results in Europe in a bid to head off antitrust penalties from the European Union.

Article here.

Interesting, so does that mean there'll be a split between the EU and the US Google Search?

I thought that the US and UK already had separate Google searches.

Well, they do, I meant more, are we expecting to see something so dramatically changed that it completely changes how searching works?

They receive their news and location information first. We do that as well, so technically, our searches are pretty much the same, but the values that go into those searches are not.

Are we now going to have some sort of significant split in Google, is what I'm asking. Because it sounds like they're having to change the code specifically for EU, and it will look dramatically different than what 'Vanilla Google' looks like.
